Salida a la biblioteca

Our students went on a excursion last January16 to visit the Public Library in Pamplona. In that excursion we had the chance to visit the Public Market situated behind the Town Hall and the Ecologic Farm, acces by Jarauta Street, Pellejerías Corner in the Old Town.

Students in the Ecologic farm.

We left the school early in the morning to take the bus. Our first stop was the Ecologic Farm where we spend about an hour watching the fantastic work that a group of people called “La Piparrika” has done in this place. We got lucky because one of the members of this society was there and he was very kind and friendly to explain a lot of interesting facts about it.

He told us how this projetc began and how they take care of it. In this Ecologic and Community Farm we can find different types of vegetables such as lettuces, carrots, onions, radihses, pilgrim pumpkins, beetroots, etc.

Also there are medicinal plants, and some terraces with grapevines. In the center of the square there is a rotational terrace with different cultivation.

After the visit we had a snack to continue our excursion to the Library.

Reading books.

When we got there one of the workers was waiting for us. And took us to one of the rooms destinated to kids. In this room, our students had the opportunity to watch different types of books, stay in contact with them, and we had a storyteller time. We spent about one hour learning the benefits or reading books, which to me was one of the main goals fo this excursion to the Library. We were telling them that reading is fun, reading develops child’s imagination, improves vocabulary and language skills, on one hand, reading exercises our brain. On the other hand, improves concentration, and reading books with children helps to develop empathy.

So, I see lots of benefits of reading books and that is what I try to teach my students.

After that we went to visit the Market. It was a quick visit because we had to go to have lunch to the old Bus Station where we had a lot of fun.

Once we finished to have lunch and play in the park, we took the bus to come back to school.

It was a great day, specially for our students, who had such a wonderful experience going to downtown Pamplona to visit Public Library, Market and Ecologic Farm.

Watching the fantastic work.
